CHAIR IN HISTORY AND PHILOSOPHY OF SCIENCE OR PHILOSOPHY
As part of its programme of developing research strengths, the University of Leeds invites applications for a new Professorship in the Department of Philosophy. The successful candidate will be a leading academic philosopher or historian of science of international standing with an excellent research and publication record.
The Department of Philosophy has particular strengths in Metaphysics and the History and Philosophy of Science but is also keen to expand its research activities in Epistemology, Philosophy of Language and the Philosophy of Mind or related areas. The successful candidate will be expected to provide academic leadership in the development of the Department's programme of research and to engage with colleagues across a range of areas. You will also be expected to contribute to the development of the Department's strategy for the recruitment of international postgraduate students and will have extensive teaching and administrative experience. You will also be expected to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and to contribute to PhD supervision.
This appointment is part of a long-term strategy aimed at advancing the Department's international research profile and building on the research strengths of CMM and HPS, and further appointments are anticipated.
It is expected that the successful candidate will take up their duties from 1st September 2007 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Salary will be within the professorial range, minimum £50,588 (£52,106 from 1st February 2007).
