Dear listmembers
I'm writing to give notice of a meeting in Manchester, UK, on Saturday
22 - Sunday 23 July under the title "Computers in use: historical and social
perspectives." The meeting will feature invited speakers whose work addresses
computers, their representation and their users (expert and non-expert) across
a variety of periods and contexts. The intended audience includes academic
historians, social scientists, museums professionals, librarians and
archivists.
The event will take place at the Centre for the History of Science, Technology
and Medicine, University of Manchester (Saturday) and the Museum of Science and
Industry in Manchester (Sunday, provisionally including a visit to the Museum's
Collections Centre.) It will be limited in size, but is intended as a means
for those working in the UK and further afield to make contact and discuss
research agendas, and hopefully as a spur to future events.
We are currently arranging the programme and hope to be able to announce this
within the next two weeks, at which point registration information will be made
available.
Please note: the University of Manchester's email systems have recently suffered
a severe and prolonged failure; although services appear to have resumed, it's
probably safest to direct all correspondence both to james.sumner {at}
manchester.ac.uk and to my personal account, james {at} jbsumner.com .
Best regards
James
