Call for Papers
one day conference hosted by
MEDIA & POLITICS GROUP
De Montfort University, Leicester
& the BSA Media Group
We are interested in papers that investigate the mediation of crime and law
enforcement in relation to questions of agency, gender and performance.
Fields of enquiry can include fiction and non-fiction forms.
Questions for panel and plenary papers might include:
How is the gendered protagonist presented in film, television and other
mediated narrative forms?
How is the existence and exercise of authority and gendered identity
represented in media narratives?
What correspondence is there between legal definitions of agency and those
typically shown on-screen?
Do media institutions/audiences/forms dictate particular version of agency?
Do shifts in the character/performance of agency, whether by a criminal or
law enforcer, demand corresponding or counterbalancing changes in other
aspects of representation or institutional practice?
We are happy to consider other related proposals
