The Fitzwilliam Museum has built a reputation for its application of ICT to
a range of functions from collections information management to Online
Public Access to its collections catalogue, educational resources and
virtual exhibitions. It is involved in innovative projects funded by the
Museums, Archives and Libraries Council and the Arts and Humanities Research
Council. A vacancy has arisen in the key role of Computer Manager who
supports these projects, manages the LAN, five servers and 95+ connections,
ensures the maintenance and upgrading of hardware and software, supports the
users and advises the Museum management on all IT and computing matters.
We are seeking a highly motivated computer professional, with both complex
project and more general management experience, who has both excellent
inter-personal and communication skills. Applicants must be familiar with
UK Museum Documentation Standards and be able to demonstrate more than a
passing interest in the fast-developing field of digital cultural knowledge
management and exchange.
Essential qualifications: a degree in computer science, evidence of
installation experience and hardware maintenance, experience of managing a
major project and of working in an academic environment with public access
orientation.
