Thanks for the plug Dylan, but I'm not sure I would categorise a download of our audio tour as a podcast, though I know what you mean. We do plan to produce a series of audio tours that will be more like podcasts, working with local primary and secondary schools in the first instance. I'm very interested in the idea of people being able to add their own content to our site(s), and audio commentaries (or whatever) would be great.
Best wishes
Pete

Hi Colin
Museums and podcasting:
ArtMobs I think are very interesting way of generating interest around
collections:
http://mod.blogs.com/art_mobs/
There's a RocketBoom vlog of what this is here:
http://www.rocketboom.com/vlog/archives/2005/06/rb_05_jun_08.html
We are *just* starting to do some stuff over on the Dana Centre website
I've also briefly looked into ways of letting people add content
directly from the gallery by phoning a number and recording/podcasting
what they have to say. Drop me a line direct if you want to know more
about the techniques I played with.
Podcasting generally:
Definitely have a look at Odeo if you're interested in great examples of
usability around a potentially difficult to understand topic. The
creation stuff on there is very good - just plug in a microphone and go.
(I believe this is all "Flash Comms" stuff...)
Also http://podomatic.com/ is a great resource. They have emails you can
add audio to and a tool here http://www.podomatic.com/mix which lets you
create a podcast interview with George Bush online...all good fun and
probably great for younger audience engagement
cheers
Mike

do you mean podcasting in the broader sense or making mp3's available at
the museum for transfer on to portable players whilst visiting the
museum?
for the former I'd suggest a look at Odeo[1] an online system for
podcast creation, distribution and promotion - seems to me that Odeo
lowers the barriers of entry to a tiny hurdle - has your PC got a
microphone?
there's also a tagging system so your channels[2] can be grouped and
found more easily.
Interested in how and what sort of audio you'd be creating?
