Web Producer – Six month fixed term contract (Maternity cover)

Reporting to: Head of Online Projects 

Job purpose: 

The Web Producer is responsible for creating and managing interactive 
projects that tie in with Museum exhibitions, programmes and strategic 
objectives. It is a content lead role that will require creativity as well 
as proven project management skills. The successful candidate will work on 
projects from concept to launch with a view to extending the Museum’s reach 
to a wide range of online audiences. They will have some line management 
responsibilities and work closely with the Exhibitions, Curatorial, IT and 
Education Departments. 

Main duties:

·To work with the Head of Online Projects, Senior Web Developer and other 
Web team members to come up with creative, engaging, sustainable and 
achievable ideas 
·To work with content and technical staff to define project requirements, 
develop a timeline and budget, identify technical considerations and 
determine all resource requirements
·To write functional specifications and work with IT to explore appropriate 
technical solutions
·To develop a project schedule, manage project scope, handle change 
requests, facilitate project meetings, review all project deliverables for 
quality and accuracy, maintain project documentation, communicate project 
status and identify any risks
·To work with designers to develop overall look and feel for sites/ content 
and to determine architecture and navigation, back end integration and 
content development
·To manage the tender of project work and the relationship with external 
agencies as appropriate
·To involve all internal stakeholders at key stages of the development 
process and to ensure that projects reach the target audiences and create 
an impression.
·To manage three members of the content team, to be able to write well for 
the web and to champion high online editorial standards  
Required Skills/Qualifications:  
Skills and experience:

Essential:

·At least three years experience as an interactive Producer, managing 
simultaneous projects and with demonstrated team management abilities
·Excellent project management skills and experience of delivering large, 
complex projects on time and on budget.
·Creative flair and experience of creating innovative content for a range 
of audiences – preferably in the arts, cultural sector, education or media.
·The ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders at a 
variety of levels and across departments
·A good understanding of, and interest in, online learning for a wide range 
of audiences
·Strong communication skills, sound editorial judgement and a good 
attention to detail
·Experience of working in a museum, gallery or archive would be a bonus as 
would some experience of creating audio/ video content and thoughts on how 
emerging technologies can be harnessed to create greater user engagement.
·Understanding of Internet/ New Media project development process from 
requirements gathering to launch
·A good understanding of Web tools and technologies (e.g HTML, CSS, 
Photoshop, Dreamweaver, SQL) 
·A good understanding of accessibility and usability best practice
·Some experience of working with CMSs and database-driven websites

Desirable:
·Knowledge of public sector accountability and financial management
·Experience of managing a tender process and awarding contracts
·An understanding of the importance of object-led Museum content and an 
interest in our subjects and collections.

Terms and Conditions

Your core hours of work will be 41 per week, 9.00am – 5.00pm, Monday to 
Friday, with an additional hour to be worked in agreement with line 
management.

Salary: £30.000 – £35,000
