***CALL FOR PAPERS - WORKSHOPS - AND SUPPORT***
UK MUSEUMS ON THE WEB 2006
'User specified: Museum audiences and the new web environment'
Main conference THURSDAY 6 JULY
Workshops FRIDAY 7 JULY
organised by THE MUSEUMS COMPUTER GROUP
hosted by The University of Leicester's Digital Heritage Research Group
sponsored by The 24 Hour Museum
Following on from 'Web Enabled' (2004) and 'The Digital Object' (2005),
this year's UK Museums on the Web conference focuses on _audience_.
* Do we know who our online audiences are, and what they want?
* Are we providing the right kind of service?
* And in a rapidly developing online environment, are we keeping up with
this audience's changing expectations and practices?
By bringing together experts from within and outside the museum sector
this one-day event will be structured around the following themes ...
WHO IS OUT THERE?
What do we know about our online users, how do we know this, what do
they do online with our sites, what do they want?
HOW DO AUDIENCES DISCOVER MUSEUMS ONLINE?
What is the role marketeers and marketing in museums use of the
Internet, and in our online relationships with our audiences? How do
users end up on our web sites, and what searches and questions lead them
to museums?.
HOW IS THIS AUDIENCE CHANGING?
How is the profile, entry, and activity of this online audience
changing, and how are museums aware of and responding to this change?
WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS OF THE NEW ONLINE TECHNOLOGIES - THE NEW 'SOCIAL
SOFTWARE'?
Blogs, wikis, podcasts, rss ... how are they transforming how users use
the web, and what does this mean for the next generation of museum web
sites?
HOW IS MUSEUM LEARNING PROVISION ADAPTING TO THIS NEW WEB ENVIRONMENT?
Is it time to re-evaluate our assumption about e-learning and what
learners are prepared to do online?
To submit a proposal, please send an abstract (max. 400 words) to Mike
Lowndes (mikel AT nhm.ac.uk <mailto:[log in to unmask]> ) by the end of 15 April 2006.
