As I said at the MCG meeting, Nick spoke a lot of good sense!
On a related topic BBC News is carrying an interesting story ...

"The founder of online encyclopaedia Wikipedia is launching a service
offering free tools for people who want to build community websites.
Wikipedia is built and edited by users and is free for anyone to use.
Wikia is the commercial counterpart to the not-for-profit Wikipedia
site.
Wikipedia was founded in 2001 and is seen as a serious rival to
commercial online encyclopaedias.
It is built using wikis, open-source software which allows anyone to
edit, add, delete, or replace an entry. It relies on volunteer
contributors to update its pages."

Let me add my compliments to Nick for raising this theme, and to Jon
Pratty for publicising Nick's paper.
I have been reading (and re-reading) O'Reilly on Web 2.0
(www.oreillynet.com/lpt/a/6228). What struck me there is his emphasis
on the competitive advantage of owning the application's core data -
especially when it becomes supplemented by user-supplied enhancements.
Is there a lesson for us in that?
