Hi EmmaJane,
It's very encouraging to those of us who are in the mobile media creation
business to see our customer base asking for help and advice!
I think my best unbiased suggestion is that, if you haven't already, you
sign up for the MA's workshop on handheld guides on 12 June at Tate Modern,
sponsored by Antenna Audio. See the page at
http://www.museumsassociation.org/12169 for info.
My best biased suggestion is that, if you're interested in encouraging
visitors to use their own phones to access to information about your
collection, including audio descriptions and educational materials that you
might want to create, then a new tagging technology my company will be
launching into the museums and galleries sector this year called Upcode
should be of interest.
It won't require any investment in infra-red or Bluetooth tags whatever cos
they will be printable ... just like bar codes... but will enable phones
that have internet capability to have immediate access to almost any
multimedia you can put on your website.
Watch the museum press for details!

Subject: New Media Enquiry
Dear All,
Here at the Wallace we are looking into ideas as to what New Media we might
be able to employ in the galleries in future, providing access to
information about our collection. In order to recommend what might be best
for us, we would like to see what is out there at the moment in terms of
terminals, PDAs etc. We want to look at them in terms of content,
technology, practical issues and, obviously, cost.
I would be really grateful to hear from colleagues in the UK who might have
something that we could come and try out in order to help inform our
thinking.
Thanks so much,
Emmajane
