Hello to the list
as most of you will remember there were two postings by Geoffrey Roper
and myself on the question of this dubious intended sale of manuscripts
in Germany in the state of Baden-Württemberg. The situation has changed
considerably since these posting, because the public outcry (on a
national and international level) was so enormous that the provincial
government has cancelled the sale and is trying now with other means
to collect the money that is needed for the restauration of the boarding
school of Salem at Lake Constanze, the original reason for the whole
affair. Baden-Württemberg is now buying paintings etc. from the house of
Baden to get together the money. In an absurd twist the regional
Ministry of culture included paintings that were already owned by the
Baden-Württemberg since 1930!!! Nobody had noticed so far ... (so much
on the famous German bureaucratic system). There is a complete
collection of articles, blogs etc. on this scandalous incident at
http://archiv.twoday.net/stories/2895938/. It also includes English
contributions.
Best wishes
Andreas
