Great timing Lucy - we're planning on properly incorporating Google into
one of our training sessions here seeing as we get asked about it so
frequently - therefore I'd love to see what other feedback you get.
I'd thought of using it as part of a session on web searching in which
we'd look at Google Scholar alongside Scirus (www.scirus.com) and any
other good search engines that anyone knows of. I'd thought that the
scientific focus of Scirus and Scholar's attempts to filter out
"non-scholarly" material could hopefully lead nicely on to a useful
discussion of quality issues.

Subject: Google
Hi
I have a question about info skills training, NHS staff and Google.
Has anyone ever advertised a training course as 'Google hint and tips'
or similar? - Did you get a good response and what was the feedback
like?
Do you use Google in training sessions? I often get asked about
searching using Google and end up giving some hints and tips out at the
end of training sessions.
I was thinking of marketing a Google session with the limits of Google
discussed and hopefully increasing use of NHS ejournals, NLH etc.
I think I could increase the awareness and use of library services at my
Trust by offering a Google session, and could also save the time of a
Googler by pointing them in the direction of quality resources.
Has anyone got any strong views about this?
I will let you know if we decide to do this and report the results to
the list.
Lucy
