Roslyn,
On my website I list good quality websites offering information for patients and carers - there is ahuge mental health section that you might like to look at - it is obviously mostly online information but many of the organisations listed produce proper offline leaflets too.

Hope this helps

Subject: Information for mental health service users - examples of good pr actice?
Dear all
I have recently been appointed as Information Facilitator for a pilot project looking at information for service users and carers (printed information primarily though also some web-based sources) initially on different conditions, medications and alternative and talking therapies and how this information is delivered in clinical settings. One of the end results should be a sustainable delivery mechanism for this information, ie beyond the duration of the 12 month project, involving a relationship between information delivered to patients by the clinician and information available in leaflet racks, etc. I have also realised, though a sensitive topic, how important the patient/clinician interaction is and how variable this has been. The main driver for this project is unsatisfactory results in the annual patient survey on the quality of information received and also way it was delivered though there are others for example issues relating to clinical governance.
I have been meeting many different stakeholders, investigating currently used and potential information sources, consulting several groups of service users, and talking to people inside and outside this Trust about good practice, supported by a literature search. Although I have come across and met people involved with some excellent examples in the acute sector I have not yet come across this work specifically in the mental health area so I am very keen to find out if there are any examples out there in mental health trusts which may not have made it into the literature.
Any contributions gratefully received!
Best wishes
