A quick word on this, if I may, as HLG Chair. I'd refer people who wonder
what we're doing to the HLG Manifesto at
http://www.cilip.org.uk/specialinterestgroups/bysubject/health/about/manifes
to/manifesto.htm
and to the work that's being done as a result of the HEAG Implementation
Group, which, under Maggie Haines' leadership is putting into practice the
results of the Future proofing the profession report. See:
http://www.cilip.org.uk/professionalguidance/sectors/health
There are two issues raised by the article, it seems to me:
1. The way the Times has reported the study
2. The methodological soundness of the study itself
They both seem questionable and I shall see what representations we might
make. But rather than simply complaining every time a stereotyped story
appears in the press, I think we should all promote the profession much more
forcefully.

Hi Veronica, I would be very interested to know what successful campaigning
CILIP has done to raise the profile of our profession. Scanning Newsbank and
other resources over the years (as well as my own professional experience)
gives no indication of this that I can find. I would seriously like to know.
Can you enlighten?
Veronica

Dear all

As Cilip scan the press and report on news stories relating to information
and library world, I'm sure they are on the case already. Colleagues may
be aware that Cilip has done some very successful campaigning to raise the
profile of the library and information profession in recent years.

I have forwarded one of the lis medical messages about this article to
Cilip colleagues and activists but respectfully suggest that if we want
Cilip staff and councillors to take action on our behalf, it would be
helpful to alert people like eg HLG councillor and chair directly. This is
best done by cilip members of course.
