> I am yet again having problems with my computers - I have WYSE terminals installed, which are supposed to be low maintenance, but are nothing but trouble for my users in terms of usability (see appended email). Does anyone else have these 'thin clients' out there, and how have they found them? I have been reading about 'Deep Freeze' as a solution for computer misuse - does anyone else use this? How do you protect your pcs / terminals?

Email to WYSE
Hello
I recently had a WYSE network of Winterm 9150SE terminals installed in my library. They are causing my users a lot of trouble, however, as the file management is not very intuitive. Files may only be opened and edited from the Users Area on the server, and not from USB devices or other removable storage.
Similarly, they cannot be attached to email from anywhere apart from the Users' area, or saved to anywhere apart from this area. They then have to be dragged and dropped back to the USB device after editing etc.
Also the users have to log in to Office and other software, which is very slow to launch. When it appears on the monitor in the remote desktop window, the screen does not fit properly in the remote desktop window. Users have to scroll up and down to see both toolbars in Word, for instance.
This is certainly not the network I was promised by my ICT department, and they seem unable to fix these problems. Is there a way around it? Do I have the right products for a library? They seem fine for browsing the Web, but little else.
Please give me a second opinion
Simon
