ASSERTIVENESS FOR MANAGERS
28 March 2006, London
Today's working environment puts an increasing emphasis on the personal credibility
of individual managers.
Expected to work productively with a wide range of people and situations, library and
information managers undertake a challenging range of problems and tasks. This
workshop sets out to support participants' effectiveness as managers by arming them
with an essential 'toolkit' of knowledge and techniques.
BENEFITS FROM ATTENDING
Participants will reflect on their approach to management, and build their confidence
in their abilities. They will be encouraged to assess their behaviour in a confidential
environment, will be introduced to a range of useful techniques, and will have the
opportunity to explore how these techniques can be used in a range of circumstances.
BY THE END OF THE EVENT PARTICIPANTS WILL HAVE:
· explored the use of assertiveness in management to help them to feel more confident in their work
· assessed their own behaviour in a variety of circumstances
· considered practical techniques for motivating staff, delegating a difficult or
unpleasant task, handling difficult colleagues and customers, dealing with aggressive behaviour, and resolving conflict
