Thank you to all those who responded to my enquiry about office space
requirements for library/archive staff.
Section 10 of the The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations
1992 states that:
"Every room where persons work shall have sufficient floor area, height and
unoccupied space for purposes of health, safety and welfare."
This equates, in the subsequent code of practice, to around 11 metres cubed
per member of staff.
However, I was looking for figures which recognise the additional space
requirements of library and archive staff and I was directed to this very
useful book chapter.

This includes the following quote which seems very generous.
"Staff Area
"The formula of 175 to 200 square feet for the librarian and 150 to 175
square feet for other staff members includes space for workstations or
desks, aisles, equipment, storage, and work counters. Space for the staff
is then estimated as follows:
"Staff area in sq. ft. = Number of staff x 150-200 sq. ft.
"Step 13 addresses planning detailed space requirements for specific staff
areas."
When we get an office this big we will, of course, be inviting you all to
the College to celebrate with us!
