Everyone Counts: Supporting Diverse Users
A Health Libraries Group Study Day 17th March 2006
Many of us working in health libraries are now supporting users who do
not fit our usual user profile. They may have no previous experience
of using libraries; they may be patients, paramedics or social workers
who have only recently discovered they have access to our services; or
health professionals from overseas working in Britain for the first
time.
We welcome this diversity, and more open access policies mean that
greater numbers of people benefit from our knowledge and services. But
how do we best cater for the needs of our expanding user base?
You can make a practical contribution to this debate by attending this
study day. It's a great opportunity to explore how you can cater for
the needs of your diverse users. There will be a group work session in
the afternoon to allow delegates to put things into context and think
about implications for their particular information service. This
could be a starting point for thinking about how your service could
contribute to Everyone Counts, the widening participation strategy
within the NHS.
The study day will be held on in the Birmingham & Midland Institute in
central Birmingham.
