While we're voting, it looks like the NHS could do with our help as
well. Currently, it has 35% of people voting against it!

I just went and had a look, Voted yes public libraries and tried to vote
no to fox hunting (I don't think that we need the world to think of the
British as a nation that likes dressing in silly outfits, getting drunk
and then riding a horse around until a pack of dogs rip a defenceless
animal to bits) but it wouldn't let me!
They might as well have football hooliganism, binge drinking and racism
as Icons of British-ness!

Seems only right and proper to acknowledge the gorgeousness of our
public L colleagues, is it 1 vote per person or vote little and often?

Never lend books, for no one ever returns them. The only books I have
in my library are books that other folks have leant me.

Some of you may be aware of the poll currently being run to "discover"
which
are the most important elements in "Britishness". This may all sound a
bit
like a hovis advert, tartan haggis and Ron Manager from The Fast Show
but
bear with me. One of the candidate Icons we are being offered is "The
Local
Public Library". Over to Derek:
>Tony, you may have read in the press that this poll is being hijacked
by
the hunting lobby. I wonder how many CILIP members know that we could
vote
for public libraries? Heaven forfend we should hijack the poll or even
think
of doing so, but ......."

The dilemma is - these things are always at the mercy of organised
groups
which is a shame. Do we stand aloof, or do we pile in and spread this
round
the library lists urging people to vote, vote, vote for public
libraries?
At very least we ought to be able to put the Pink coat lot to flight.
