COPYRIGHT FOR BEGINNERS
19 June, Birmingham
Everything library and information professionals need to know about copyright but wish they didn't.
This workshop leads the delegates through the confusing copyright maze. The workshop will begin with the basic principles and concepts of copyright law, and end with the more complex area of electronic copyright. Recent legislation implemented as a result of the EU Copyright Directive will be explained, and there will be an opportunity to discuss unresolved issues.
The friendly and informal style of the workshop leader will encourage participants to ask questions and test their knowledge.
BENEFITS FROM ATTENDING
By the end of the day participants will have a good understanding of copyright and its various exceptions and limitations. They will be confident that they know how to provide a service without breaking copyright law. They will also have an understanding of electronic copyright issues.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Anyone affected by copyright issues in a library and information provision environment will benefit from this workshop. The workshop is aimed at those with little knowledge of copyright, but would also be of use to anyone wanting a refresher course in light of recent changes.
WORKSHOP LEADER: PAUL PEDLEY
Paul is Head of Research at the Economist Intelligence Unit. He is a Visiting Professor at London Metropolitan University, a member of the Libraries and Archives Copyright Alliance and on the Advisory Board of the JISC Legal Information Service.
