unReal distribution is an innovative documentary and artists’ film
distribution initiative based on a novel subscription model.
An expanding catalogue of hard-to-source, key nonfiction films will be made
available to researchers, practitioners, teachers, students and an
interested public through a network of subscribing institutions.
unReal will develop a national subscriber base that includes most film,
documentary and media studies departments, teaching and research libraries,
cultural institute and film society collections, and practitioners’
organizations.
Subscribing institutions will receive multiple DVD copies of film and video
work only available through this network. This will include many titles
that consistently figure in critical texts and on curricula but for which
teaching or research copies are impossible to source:
• English language versions of significant foreign-language films
• Key historical works that have fallen out of distribution
• Challenging, formally innovative new work not commercially distributed
• Important work of contemporary artists’ accessible only on the
international gallery circuit.
Subscribers will also have access to:
• Supplementary research resources and critical material
• Discounts from a number of publishers
• An ongoing events programme aimed at the long-term development of
diverse and engaged audiences for documentary and artists’ film.
