Rachel,
There hasn't been the same level of development of open source library
systems as in the VLE sector, but there have been some focussed and
successful projects. Information on a number of systems (production and
beta) can be found at http://oss4lib.org/article/applications/ils. The ones
getting the press are Koha, Avanti MicroLCS, Evergreen and OpenBiblio,
though it depends what you wish do with the open source software. Most of
this activity has taken place in the public library sector, not academic,
though the reasons for this are unclear.
The OSS4LIB site also lists information about open source alternatives for a
wide number of library functions.
Regards,
Chris

Subject: Open Source Library Systems
After the success of Moodle, we're considering looking into open source =
Library Management Systems. Has anyone set up or used any of these? We'd =
be very interested in hearing which you're using, and how you've found =
it.=20
Thanks in advance for your help,
Rachel
