Friday 8th September 2006, St Martin's College, Carlisle.
Hosted by SOLSTICE Centre for Excellence in Teaching Learning at Edge Hill and The Learning Gateway St Martin's College.
This one-day conference explores and highlights how libraries are planning, adapting and utilising space (in a variety of contexts) to support the changing culture of learning and teaching in the further and higher education sector.
The use and takeup of ICT in support of these developments is also influencing both the student (and staff) experience and innovations in library and information services practice are both driving and responding to needs of an increasingly diverse student body. At the core of these concepts is the relationship between purposefully designed space, pedagogy and developing roles and interactions.
The Conference themes highlight regional and national developments that demonstrate how space is being viewed, used, supported and adapted:
- The needs of future Learners in the context of physical learning space
- Buildings designed for learner needs including features and design principles
- The role of new and emergent technologies
The Programme also features the work of NoWAL Libraries and provides the opportunity to look round the innovative Learning Gateway Building - St Martin's new flexible learning space opened in April 2006.
