Reading University Library: Special Collections move
Reading University Library's Special Collections of archives and rare
books are soon moving from the Main Library Whiteknights to a new store
being built at the University's Museum of English Rural Life (MERL) to
form part of the new Special Collections Service. Please pass on the
details below to any potential users, to help them avoid the inevitable
periods of reduced availability during the move.
Until 13 May, you can still consult these collections at the Main
Library Whiteknights in the Special Collections Reading Room. It is open
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 09:00 - 17:00, and Thursdays during
term until 19:00. To enable Library staff to prepare for the relocation,
it will be closed every Wednesday; Saturday 8 to Sunday 23 April
inclusive; and permanently from Monday 15 May. There is more on access
at: www.library.rdg.ac.uk/colls/special/collsaccess.html
From 15 May until the new service opens, some material will be available
for consultation at the MERL Reading Room, Redlands Road, Reading RG1
5EX www.ruralhistory.org/the_centre/the_location.html except when it is
in transit. Further details will be available nearer the time.
From Autumn 2006, you will be able to use this material in the new
University Special Collections Service based at the MERL reading room.
