HARTILL ART ASSOCIATES was begun in 1977 as the result of winning a
World prize contest organised by NESTLE SUISSE for their product
NESCAFE ! Alec won a trip to PARIS, Air France First Class, and 6
nights at the Hotel George Cinq, followed by flying the CONCORDE via
DAKAR and onto RIO de JANEIRO for 10 nights at the Hotel Meridien. Of
course he had a partner, Marlene who had just completed her degree in
Teaching after receiving an Honours BA in Fine Arts.
Our first project documented Cathedral Notre-Dame de CHARTRES, having
received permission from the French Ministry of Culture, and then in
BRAZIL we were officially welcomed and flown to BRASILIA by the Office
of Tourism in order to photograph the vast complex of government
buildings designed by Oscar Niemeyer.
During the past 30 years we have travelled to over 15 countries and have
provided slides to universities in Australia, Canada, England, New
Zealand, South Africa and the U.S.A. Despite robbery hazards and
intemperate weather we enjoyed our photography and we captured thousands
of interesting images that have proven of real interest and value to
all our International clientele.
Now, due to the lessening of demand for Slides and the acceptance of a
new world in the form of Digital Imaging, you may find many of our
images on ARTstor. However, the TOTAL image Collection lives on in
SCHOLARS RESOURCE and can be licensed in perpetuity, which is a great
advantage. In addition you should note that specialised Theme projects
on DVDs will continue to be available direct from HAA's home address.
Finally, we have recently been greatly honoured by the acceptance of the
Archive by the NATIONAL GALLERY OF CANADA which will be of benefit to
many Art Historians and Researchers in the future. Truly a fitting end
to HAA's career!
HAA must bid you all "Farewell", and in so doing I wish all those who
supported and encouraged us down the years to know that we have been
very grateful for that support.
Thank you all, very much!
Alec Hartill
