The post referring to the archives hub and lgbtq*
http://www.archiveshub.ac.uk/feb06.shtml
Is most interesting.
It refers to the CP and its change in line.
This point was also made at a LMA meeting in december, and I had to present
an alternative view of history based on the international socialists, the
gay liberation front, the gay librarians' group and gay rights at work.
Back in the early 1970sw librarians for social change argued about the
constriction of concepts and the making of history by the construction of
libraries, archives, museums and so forth.
The fact that there is a CP archive in the variety of forms in which it
exists and is managed makes for a particular history.
In the same way the publishing industry constructs history through its
selections, vide my response to Simon Edge's book.
It is nice the concrete issues arrive so early in the month. I presume the
IS is responsible though for not doing archive management, and I presume the
archivists will say they are not there to manage history, only the archive
:)
