The National Library of Scotland will be undertaking a major upgrade to
its library management system from the 4-12 February inclusive. The
Library has taken steps to minimise disruption to its services during
this period and it is expected that the NLS catalogues will be available
as normal. However the online book request system will be disabled for
the duration of the upgrade. Alternative procedures and arrangements
for requesting materials are in place and more information is available
at http://www.nls.uk/news/catalogue_disruption.html
There may be disruption to the Library's z39.50 service during the
upgrade period. However Library staff are currently investigating
options for ensuring continued z39.50 access and further information
will be made available via this list in due course.
Benefits of upgrade
The software upgrade will enable NLS to develop and extend services to
customers. Including:
* several improvements to catalogue searching
* additional search options
* enhanced display of materials (serial items in particular)
* display of non-Roman characters such as Arabic, Urdu and Chinese
