Copac XML database trial
(with apologies for cross posting)
We are currently creating a completely new version of the Copac union
catalogue using the MODS XML record format. You can now explore a trial
version of the XML database using the Copac V3 experimental interface.
Select the option to 'Enter Copac V3 experimental interface' above the
'News' section on the Copac Home Page:
http://copac.ac.uk/
The new records should look, on the surface, very similar to the
existing Copac displays, the main visible change is the ability to
search for, and display, records containing non-roman scripts. A link at
the end of each Full Record display allows you to view the underlying
XML record.
Please tell us about any problems you may have, as well as sending us
any general comments about the records.
Other interfaces
----------------
You can also access the trial Copac XML database via Z39.50 and SRW/SRU.
Connection details are:
Address: z3950.copac.ac.uk
Port: 2000
Database name: copac
Record syntax: a choice of MODS XML GRS1, SUTRS
No username or password are required.
Please let us know about any problems you have with these interfaces.
(Full documentation will be made available nearer the release of the new
database in early 2007)
Notes
-----
* The new database is still being built and is very active. This
means that at times it may be slow to respond.
* The database is not yet complete so not all of our contributing
libraries' catalogues will appear in your search results.
* Record de-duplication in the database is ongoing, so you may see
more duplicate records than normal in your search results.
* The interface is just to allow you to try the new database. It does
not include all the facilities that are currently available on Copac
and this is not how the interface will appear when the final move to
the XML database takes place early in 2007.
* Copac V3 is subject to change without notice.
If you have any comments about the new records etc. please get in touch
with the Copac helpdesk ([log in to unmask]).
