Apologies for cross-posting
Dear Colleagues,
We are currently reviewing our collection management policy and would be
very pleased to receive your comments and suggestions.
As background information, Eurydice at NFER
(http://www.nfer.ac.uk/eurydice) is the Eurydice Unit for England, Wales
and Northern Ireland. As part of the European information network on
education, we aim to provide reliable, comparative information on
education in Europe to support and enhance the policy making process. We
serve policy makers at European, national and local government level and
where possible, make relevant information freely available to the wider
education community.
To support our work, we maintain a small collection consisting of UK and
European education policy documents and related materials (e.g.
government guidance and curriculum documents), and also official press
releases and newspaper cuttings. All collection materials are classified
according to our in-house system, although only the more substantial
documents are catalogued - press releases and newspaper cuttings are
circulated to all team members, and then filed.
We would be very interested to find out how similar
libraries/information services manage their collections. In particular,
we would like to know how you manage press releases and newspaper
cuttings, for example:
* storage and retrieval
* how long materials are kept.
In addition, we would be keen to hear how valuable you consider these
materials to be. It takes a considerable amount of time to maintain our
collection of current awareness materials and we sometimes wonder
whether the end justifies the means.
Please forward any comments or suggestions to [log in to unmask]
Many thanks. Best wishes,
Catherine.
