ALISS (Association of Librarians and Information professionals in the Social Sciences). are pleased to announce an opportunity to visit Westminster Reference library a specialist public library in London's West End. key subject collections are Business, UK and EU official publications, law and the performing arts.

Finance
Due to travel problems Jennie was unexpectedly unable to attend. However, she sent a verbal report that finances were currently healthy. All renewal notices had been sent out. Conferences fees were being collected.
There was a possibility that funds could be spared to print a professional publicity leaflet. The committee members present felt that this was a good idea. Anyone with a useful contact is urged to email Heather so this can be pursued further.

Any suggestions for future issues should be sent to Heather. Committee members felt that accessibility was a good topic for a future feature and Heather will pursue this.
23rd August Conference.
All 40 places fully booked and a waiting list.
There had been initial problems with organising LSE catering but these now seem to be overcome.
The day is scheduled to run from 9.30-4.30 in room A316 LSE old Building Houghton Street.
Committee members are urged to arrive early if possible in order to help with admin. London members present at the meeting were allocated tasks others should let Heather know if they are able to arrive by 9am and be prepared to provide some general help during the day in directions etc if necessary.
Future event planning.
Some publicity for the 23rd August event had appeared in the CILIP job supplement publication. Committee members were not sure how this had occurred but it had generated some interest, so Jane will try to investigate if this can be used again. There is also the possibility of using the new Information Literacy website.
A suggestion on a cultural diversity event had been received from a member (John Lindsay Kingston university) Committee members were still a bit unclear about whether this would generate enough interest so it was suggested that Heather invite him to write an article about the issue and depending on the outcome of this it might be pursued further as an event.
There was a great deal of interest in organising an ALISS event in Northern England. Diane had pointed out that transport links to Bradford were not as good as to other cities. Committee members felt that it might be a good idea to try to find a venue in Leeds . Perhaps with the possibility of sharing an event with the information Literacy sub-group , to share expenses and expertise. This could be a joint training event, perhaps 11-3pm, which would be supplementary to other ALISS events, offering a welcome expansion to the programme. Heather will distribute the list of ALISS members to the committee so that they can try to see if they have any contacts.
Library visitors are still being planned. The womens library will go ahead on the 21st August, a date has also been scheduled for the Westminster reference library in September which will be advertised this week.
Heather is currently pursuing other suggestions such as the Guardian Archive other suggestions are welcome.
Website update.
Barbara has been liaising with Head. They have promised a version of the site by the 23rd August. If this appears feasible it could be briefly displayed to the delegates as a prototype. Once this has been done proper training in updating it will be offered by them.
