I saw this too and thought it very interesting. It is in fact a Welsh Edzell about which LIHG has already taken action. The indicator is an excellent source of primary loan data. Would make a good student project.

Subject: Newborough Library
The BBC "Restoration" programme yesterday featured the Prichard Jones Institute at Newborough, Anglesey, and showed their 'detective' Ptolemy Dean enthusing over a Cotgreave Indicator, still with its miniature books recording issues, and other remnants of an early-20th century public library. He was keen to see it restored "as such" without taking too much account of modern library needs, but it would indeed be a very interesting library history project to do something with it.
The library seems, from my web search, to be run as a branch of Anglesey County Libraries, though no doubt no longer using the indicator! The website www.ynysmon.gov.uk/english
led me to details of the library, including the address: Newborough Library, Prichard Jones Institute, Newborough, Llanfairpwllgwyngyll LL61 6SY and an e-mail address [log in to unmask] .
Have any Welsh (or other) lis-libhistorians further information about this survival? It would be good to encourage those organising the restoration appeal to make sure the historic library fittings are properly preserved - I don't think there can be many more Indicators around "in situ". Something for the LIHG to pick up perhaps - or anyone else who has the opportunity to pursue it.
If you want to vote for the Prichard Institute within the Restoration programme you can phone 090013 600 500 (at £1.00, which gives 77p to the Restoration fund nationally) - see also the bbc.co.uk/restoration website.
Regards
Peter
