Hi
Bit of a jumbled thought stream here, but it's Friday ...
Some departments here have banned students from using Wikipedia
because they are using it indiscriminately. Come to that a lot of staff
don't understnd about it either. We're using it as a teaching tool to talk
about other quality information and are producing a 'beyond wikipedia'
handout. All of these things are good hooks into showing other
resources, e.g. who would have thought that citation searching would
ever become sexy but Google Scholar has made that happen. There
was an article in Nature (I think it was) a while back which compared
some content on Wikipedia and Enc Britannica and found there was
not a lot of difference. I love the idea tho of sharing knowledge in this
way and would like to do something with students to create a resource
using wiki software
