Hi Angela (& All),
We used to have a division between the incoming & outgoing ILLs at the
Wellcome Library. Requests for material from members of staff / research
associates were traditionally dealt with by staff in our Information
Services, which had a primary aim of supporting the work of staff at the
Wellcome Trust. External requests from other libraries, on the other
hand, were generally for material held within our History of Medicine
collections so were dealt with by the Reader Services Department. Demand
for both sides of the service was generally quite low, when compared
with HE or FE institutions, although the inclusion of the library's
catalogue on COPAC did see external requests increase threefold
overnight!
The move from the BL's paper system to an account system as well as
internal changes within the library, including the amalgamation of the
Information Services & Reader Services, gradually saw the two sides of
the services combined to form a single point of operation in late 2003.
I'm happy to answer any further questions you may have off list.
Regards
Doug

Subject: ILL & Document Delivery
I'd be grateful for an answer to an ILL/Document Delivery administrative
query I have.
Are there any libraries out there where outgoing loans and incoming
loans are administered by two separate departments?
Our outgoing loans are processed by Lending Services and the incoming
loans by Collections Management. We are currently reviewing this
situation and I'd be interested to hear from any library that may have
this or a similar division of labour.
Many thanks for your time
Angela
