Current Anthropology debuts design changes and expanded coverage
Current Anthropology, an international peer-reviewed journal published by
the University of Chicago Press, will launch a new section, called Current
Applications, in volume 47, beginning Feb. 2006. The volume also marks a
frequency increase to bimonthly publication and introduces a new title
typeface and cover color.
Current Applications presents engaging work conducted by anthropologists
addressing the problems and needs of specific communities. Reinforcing the
journal's dedication to the role of anthropology in public life, this
section will appear in every issue, demonstrating the range of applications
spanning the sub-fields of anthropology and facilitating discussion between
academic and applied research.
The Current Anthropology redesign maintains the journal's scholarly
presentation of research while incorporating pioneering tables and graphics.
Many subtler stylistic changes have been integrated to make the text cleaner
and more readable. In addition, reports are now published with abstracts so
that readers can see and access the major contributions more readily.
"We believe these changes represent improvements that help the journal carry
forward its mission to publish innovative and significant work within
anthropology and closely allied fields, to represent the different
sub-disciplines and the broad array of perspectives from different parts of
the world, and to support debates," said Current Anthropology Editor, Ben
Orlove. "The expansion of the field supports expansion of the journal, in
both its electronic and print formats. With these changes, as with past and
future changes, the journal strives to continue its long-established
strengths by providing readers with current anthropology in current ways."
