Hello there,
I wonder if anyone else is currently experiencing problems accessing
OVID databases which are up for renewal? We have suddenly found that 2
of our subscribed databases, Medline and CINAHL have disappeared from
the databases list on the OVID gateway. It appears that our 2005
subscription ended on the 1st January 2006. However, we did not receive
a renewal reminder about this from OVID until 3 weeks after our
subscription expired. Access seems to have disappeared today on the last
day of January.
I have been advised that our Account Manager at OVID is out of the
office until the 7th February and am currently in the process of logging
a call with OVID support in the interim in order to establish whether
this is a technical hitch on the platform or whether it relates to our
subscription expiring. If the second is the case however, I am not
particularly happy on 2 counts:
1) that the renewal reminder did not come in good time BEFORE the
subscription expired
2) that there may appear to be a 1 month grace period which has ended
today, although in reality we were not advised of this until the 25th
Jan so could not possibly act on this in time.
With so many resources to administer, there is absolutely no way we can
keep track of subscriptions up for renewal without notification from the
publisher / vendor themselves and/or automated renewal alerts from
within a library management system. These databases are well used and we
are not happy about losing access without sufficient notice.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem with OVID databases at present
who could possibly share their experiences on or off list?
Many thanks in advance for your feedback.
Best Wishes
Sarah
