Wiley Announces Launch of Evidence-Based Child Health: A

Cochrane Review Journal

Chichester, England, June 8, 2006 - John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.,

a subsidiary of John Wiley & Sons, Inc., announces the

launch of Evidence-Based Child Health: A Cochrane Review

Journal to complement its expanding Evidence-Based Medicine

(EBM) portfolio.

Available online via Wiley InterScience, Evidence-Based

Child Health: A Cochrane Review Journal , (www.evidence-

basedchildhealth.com) presents concise, easy to understand,

interesting expert commentaries and summaries from The

Cochrane Library and other key systematic child health

reviews in their clinical context. The purpose of the

journal is to regularly highlight relevant, timely and

topical reviews, to inform evidence-based decision-making in

child health.

The new journal is edited by the paediatric leadership

within the Cochrane Child Health Field. These clinicians

have vast experience in writing and publishing systematic

reviews and have taken the next step of information

translation to make the valuable information found in

Cochrane Reviews work in actual practice.

Evidence-Based Child Health: A Cochrane Review Journal

commentaries use ALL information around a given clinical

problem, including the review that is set in context of ALL

information. The journal gives the authors of the original

Cochrane Reviews the opportunity to respond to the child

health experts’ commentaries and a balanced discussion

ensues. A methodology piece written by paediatric

colleagues is added to each issue, explaining statistical

and epidemiological issues in order to make the use of the

evidence easier for practitioners.

"Evidence-Based Medicine is playing an increasingly

important role in the future of clinical practice," said

Deborah Dixon, Editorial and Business Development Director,

Health Sciences. "With the launch of Evidence-Based Child

Health: A Cochrane Review Journal, Wiley will provide

practitioners, parents, patients and other child health

advocates with content to inform their clinical decision

making and an integrated content and tool offering that

enhances the quality of medical care."

Evidence-Based Child Health: A Cochrane Review Journal

adopts Wiley’s new business model for newly launched medical

journals and in 2006, institutions can opt to receive

complimentary online access throughout the year.

The launch of Evidence-Based Child Health: A Cochrane Review

Journal complements Wiley’s existing EBM portfolio which

includes InfoPOEMs, Evidence-Based Medical Guidelines and

The Cochrane Library.

Content of the first issue includes an “umbrella review”

which synthesizes the evidence from several Cochrane reviews

on nocturnal enuresis (bed-wetting) in one accessible and

usable document. The review compiles evidence from seven

separate Cochrane Reviews.

Other reviews in the first issue of Evidence-Based Child

Health: A Cochrane Review Journal include:

Intravenous aminophylline for acute severe asthma in

children over two years receiving inhaled bronchodilators

Chest radiograph in acute respiratory infections in

children

Preoperative fasting for preventing perioperative

complications in children

Alarm interventions for nocturnal enuresis in children

Interventions to prevent hypothermia at birth in preterm

and/or low birthweight babies

Air versus oxygen for resuscitation of infants at birth

If you would like to see a full list of Reviews published

in the first issue of Evidence-Based Child Health: A

Cochrane Review Journal, or would like to request full

access to the contents of the journal, please contact.
