Dear all,
I wanted to share our frustration at the publisher of the journal
'Diabetes', with you.
The first week back after Christmas we found that access to 'Diabetes'
had been stopped on the 5th January. It is the third consecutive year
this has happened.
Our subscription agent had both renewed the order and sent the payment
but the publisher had not cashed it. We were informed of this on 9th
January, and access was temporarily restored for a week.
This is what we were told by our agent: Further to your below enquiry
the publisher has extended access until 15 January 2006 to allow enough
time for them to process our renewal payment. Once they have done this
they will activate access for the whole year.
What happened?
The 15th January came and Diabetes access was stopped again. On
enquiring why we find that the publisher has still not been able to
process our agent's payment. (Why? They had proof six days earlier that
it had been sent, and they restored access to give THEMSELVES time to
process the payment).
Now we are told it will take another 2 to 3 weeks for this payment to be
sorted out and for online access to be reinstated. By my calculations
that takes us well into February so we will in fact have around 10 and a
half months access to this journal in 2006.
So, a black mark from us for the American Diabetes Association, a
publisher which seems unable to get its act together.
Perhaps I could suggest to other publishers who take time to cash
renewal payments that a gracing of online access might be the way
forward?
Best wishes everyone as ever
