SUNCAT Workshops September 2006
You are invited to attend a workshop being run by SUNCAT, the Serials
Union CATalogue for the UK, http://www.suncat.ac.uk
SUNCAT is the most comprehensive source of information about the
location of serials held in libraries throughout the UK. SUNCAT
currently contains records from nearly 50 UK libraries, the CONSER
database and the ISSN Register. Contributing libraries include the
British Library, the National Libraries of Scotland and Wales, some of
the largest Higher Education institutions across the UK and an
increasing number of specialist and public libraries. For a full list of
the contributing libraries please see
http://www.suncat.ac.uk/about/who.html
SUNCAT will soon also be a central repository of high-quality
bibliographic records which contributing libraries may download to
upgrade their local catalogues.
The content of the workshops will reflect SUNCAT's move from project
phase to fully fledged service as of the 1st August this year and we
would encourage a range of library staff to attend to learn more about
how SUNCAT may be embedded as a key resource for your institution's
academics, researchers and library staff.
Intended audience
This event will be highly relevant for library staff who regularly
manage or seek serials-related information, including reference enquiry
staff, serials librarians, inter-library loan staff, cataloguing staff
and liaison librarians.
Programme
The workshop will cover:
* The background, scope and structure of SUNCAT
* How SUNCAT can benefit librarians
* How SUNCAT can benefit end-users
* The perspective of a library contributing to SUNCAT
* How SUNCAT fits into the wider information environment
* Future developments for SUNCAT

each session running from 1.30 to 4.30pm.
