The Berkeley Electronic Press (bepress) is pleased to announce its first
European office, located in Bristol, UK. Robin Beecroft, formerly at
Intellect, has been appointed the European Representative for bepress. His
primary missions will be to serve as the lead point of contact for European
academic institutions interested in journal subscriptions and to develop new
titles for the list from Europe and the Middle East.
Founded by academics in 1999, The Berkeley Electronic Press has created a
portfolio of products and services that reduces the costs of (and barriers
to) access to scholarly content. Our academic, subscription-based journals
are at the core of this work. To learn more, visit http://www.bepress.com.
The company was launched in response to the scholarly communication crisis
and the frustration from witnessing the restrictive practices, delays in
processing content, and especially the price increases that were crippling
the libraries.
The Berkeley Electronic Press is proud that it has never raised the price of
any of its titles since the date of first publication, and ensured the price
per page has gone down considerably as the journals have developed. The
journals range in price from US$500 to US$140 (about £285 to £80) for
365-day access including full back-volume access. For a list of titles, see
http://www.bepress.com/aboutjournals.html .
Faculty members in higher education are able to sample the content due to a
quasi-open access policy in a spirit of long-term development for scholarly
communication. This allows members of an institution to read any content in
any journal issue in return for taking the time to register the request to
access any single article. For details on this innovative policy, please
visit http://www.bepress.com/quasi_openaccess.html .
Contacting The Berkeley Electronic Press
Robin Beecroft hopes people from across the scholarly communications
community will consider the bepress journals, products and services on the
web site, and will then wish to inform their colleagues, departments and
libraries in turn by forwarding this information to faculty members and
librarians. Robin is available to handle all enquiries about bepress and its
work.
