Hello everyone
Please see the communication below from Claire Honeybourne regarding the
new Athens structure and it's implications for publishers. Can I please
remind PCTs and those Acute Trusts who purchase on behalf of PCTs and
Ambulance Trusts, that you may need to contact your publishers in order
to clarify details for your licences. Suppliers will need to know your
Athens org ID and any change in Trust and contact details. This mainly
applies to those trusts who have become the 'new' PCTs, and will again
only apply if you purchase your own local resources.
Please remember that your suppliers will need to know that we will be
using the new Athens structure in April 07 and that all new purchases
must use the new structure with effect from this date.
Best wishes
Ingrid Evans

Subject: Athens restructure
Dear all,
As you are aware NHS England has restructured. The Strategic Health
Authority (SHA) reconfiguration is described at
http://www.dh.gov.uk/assetRoot/04/13/37/44/04133744.pdf, and links to
the primary care trust (PCT) reconfigurations can be found at
http://www.dh.gov.uk/NewsHome/NewsArticle/fs/en?CONTENT_ID=4135088&chk=o
JufTo.
In the majority of cases, existing PCTs are merging to form larger PCTs.
However, there are a few cases where a PCT is splitting, and their users
will be moved to a new PCT based on where they work. The old North East
region has been split up and a new SHA has been created for the new
Yorkshire and Humber.
The Department of Health have mandated a final deadline for all the
changes to be in place by 1 April 2007. However, because of the
widespread publicity that these changes have received, and the way they
are being phased in, the NHS feel that new starters (e.g. student nurses
and doctors) who are due to register for their Athens account in October
are likely to be already familiar with the new organisational structure
and PCT names. So we will be manipulating the Athens account structure
to ensure that new starters register for the correct 'new' organisation,
but all the 'old' organisations will still be visible to service
providers, i.e. their users will continue to pass the Athens
organisation ID they currently have.
We have collated these changes via the NHS England Regional Athens
Administrator group: http://www.library.nhs.uk/corecontent/athens/admin
A decision was made to manage these changes nationally so Service
Providers were not overwhelmed with individual queries and requests for
changes to Athens org ids.
A representation of the Athens structure can be found at
http://www.athensams.net/list_orgs.php?id=1407223
Please note that no Athens org ids have been deleted YET! Athens and
the core content service providers are meeting on 14th November to
discuss these changes. A further conference call will be scheduled for
other service providers. Please contact your local service providers
and inform them of these changes and ensure they are aware that the
Athens structure is changing.
