Subject: e-content licensing - a quick survey
Dear Colleagues
As you're probably aware, Aberystwyth University are conducting some research on behalf of LKDN & JISC to explore how best to get collaborative procurement going across NHS and HE, and what such activities should be aimed at.
To assist with this research, it would be useful if we could get an indication of the following type of licensing information across the SHAs, for the more local (i.e. not Core Content, or NLH purchasing):
E-journals: Do the e-journal purchases follow the print journal subscriptions timescale? In other words purchase in the Autumn for use over the next calendar year? If not, when are they purchased and when does the subscription actually run from in the calendar year?
Duration of e-journal purchases: 12 months or longer?
E-books: Do the e-books purchases follow the print journal subscriptions timescale? If not, when are e-books purchased - and when does the subscription run from in the calendar year?
Duration of purchasing contracts for e-books: 12 months or longer?
Databases: Are these purchased in the Autumn for use over the next calendar year? If not, when are they purchased and when does the subscription actually run from in the calendar year?
Duration of database purchases: 12 months or longer?
At SHA level - how common is it to have pooled funding/topslicing/other variations? - for collaborative purchasing of e-content for libraries in the SHA area?
Aberystwyth would also like an indication of the number of local (i.e. groups of NHS libraries at sub-SHA level) who are purchasing together, if you have this information.
Please could you supply as much information as you have available from the 2005/06 financial year to Sian Spink:
