Subject: News on the NHS Copyright Licence
Importance: High
Please ensure that library staff are aware of the information about the recently renegotiated NHS Copyright Licence at http://www.library.nhs.uk/forlibrarians/copyright The new Licence is in effect now! Based on the Copyright Licensing Agency's 'Public Administration Licence', it brings some additional benefits over the previous NHS Licence. Notably, it is now permissible to scan and transmit copies via NHS e-mail, and the upper limit to the number of copies is removed.
No supporting literature has yet been produced, so unfortunately there are at present no posters to put beside copiers in place of the old posters. This is the job of the CLA, and Ben Toth and I and others will be meeting soon with them to discuss this urgent requirement. Also, the CLA website is not up to date in respect of the NHS (the information on the NHS page still relates to the old licence). However, see http://www.cla.co.uk/licensing/gov/gov_public.html for information about the Public Administration Licence (including the list of excluded works).
