Public Health @ Brunel Seminar by

ANGELA FLUX

Head of Health Promotion for Hillingdon

Hillingdon Primary Care Trust and London Borough of Hillingdon

MONDAY, 19th JUNE 1.00 - 2.00pm

GASKELL BUILDING, ROOM 051 UXBRIDGE CAMPUS

"Healthy Hillingdon - Specialist Health Promotion Service for Council and PCT... the the journey so far and the direction of travel"

This event will focus upon the approach being adopted to promoting health and well-being in the local community. It will profile some of the issues, underpinning principles, community programmes, and the strategy for the future.

Angela has been working in health and education, or related research work for over twenty years, initially as a teacher in Personal, Social and Health Education, and Religious Education with adolescents in Secondary Schools, later in HIV/AIDS sexual health promotion and currently as Head of Health Promotion for Hillingdon. She directs the specialist Health Promotion work of Healthy Hillingdon. She has pioneered successful partnerships between voluntary and statutory agencies, NHS and Local Authority sectors, and between service providers and users across a range of issues and topics. Angela is a nationally recognized innovator and exponent of peer education and support systems and has contributed to conferences and "trainer training" sessions in this field for many years. She is the author and designer of several health education teaching and training resources. Current programmes include the Healthy Hillingdon schools scheme, Welcome to your Libraries, HOPE which works with vulnerable groups and Adolescent Health Promotion and support services.

Angela is also a founding Director of Civil Eyes Research Ltd. a company specialising in developing techniques for encouraging participation and involvement of wide groups of the population in policy formulation and decision-making. Civil Eyes Research has contributed to several recent national-scale projects concerned with Britain's 20-year future and beyond, and the citizens who will shape and inhabit that future.
