Dear Public Health Colleagues
There have been a number of helpful discussions between NICE and
DH since
the announcement on 24 March that the HIAgateway website would be
decommissioned about the way forward. I am writing to update you
on the
current position.
NICE have taken prompt action to ensure continuing access to the
Gateway
resource as a temporary solution pending consideration of
options for the
future. During the installation of the new NICE website on 1
April, NICE
gave a contact name on the HIAgateway front page so that people
could
obtain access to resources, and have now linked the original
HIAgateway URL
to their new website on a temporary basis until a new host is
found, but
there will be no maintenance of it.
In considering options for the future of the Gateway resource,
we propose
the following as a way forward:
we work with NICE to identify a suitable temporary solution to
maintaining the website and the costs involved in the
transfer of the
website to a new host as well as routine maintenance.
we will lead a process of consultation with public health
stakeholders
in the context of the public health information and intelligence
strategy, to look at end users' needs for information on HIA
and to
assess their perceptions and use of the existing web resource.
we will look at the main options for reprovision and/or
redevelopment of
the web resource as needed, including competitive
procurement options,
and develop a procurement process and timetable.
The DH and NICE are meeting just after Easter, so a process and
timetable
should become clearer later this month.
