NORTH SOMERSET COUNCIL 
 
Job title:  GIS Data and Land Charges Officer
 
Salary:  £18,450 – 20,895 p.a.
 
Location:  Somerset House, Weston-super-Mare
 
Hours:  37 hours per week
  

This vacancy is an opportunity to join an exciting team delivering Council 
wide GIS services using MapInfo, Intranet and Internet mapping 
applications and managing the Local Land and Property Gazetteer (LLPG). 

The Council’s Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Service is a core 
information source to Council staff and the general public.  

The post holder will report to the GIS Manager, and will as part of a 
wider team, make an important contribution to the implementation and 
development of GIS across the Council, covering the digital map base, 
software, hardware and methodologies. You will participate in GIS projects 
and provide technical and customer support for all GIS and related 
activities within the Council.  

The post holder will assist in the support of GIS and web-based mapping in 
the Council and process street naming and numbering applications as 
required. You will be expected to progress work on a number of development 
and support projects with supervision from the project manager and to 
produce appropriate progress reports. The ability to work to key 
indicators and targets is essential. 

Core Systems include MapInfo, PlanWeb & PlanAccess applications and the 
Local Land and Property Gazetteer (LLPG). Related services include 
managing the Councils map base comprising of approximately 400 data sets, 
and public-facing Local Land Charges services.

The Land Charges element of the job will follow established procedures to 
undertake the entire process for street naming and property numbering and 
conduct Local Land Charge searches as required. The Council will provide 
training for the suitable candidate.

You will possess A-levels or equivalent and preferably a recognised post A-
level qualification in GIS or a related discipline and/or extensive 
training in GIS. You will have a minimum of 2 years experience of 
supporting general GIS applications, including at least 1 year of GIS 
technical support and at least 1 year of digitizing, data entry and 
documentation. Ideally, you will also have experience of working in a 
Local Authority.
