Dear All,
The British Geophysical Association announces its annual "New Advances
in Geophysics" meeting for 2007:
"New Techniques and Discoveries in Marine Geophysics"
To be held on Thursday 8th and Friday 9th February 2007 at the
Geological Society, Burlington House, Piccadilly, London.
This is the British Geophysical Association's annual meeting providing
a showcase for recent and exciting new discoveries and initiatives in
geophysical research. This year we are featuring marine geophysics.
With major new hydroacoustic networks and ocean bottom observatories
coming on line or proposed, and global climate change, tsunami and
the intensifying search for oil driving the agenda, marine
geophysics is a dynamic topic. This two-day meeting is intended
as a forum for the latest research exploiting new techniques or
new applications or exciting discoveries with existing techniques.
We invite proposals for talks and posters in subjects including
(but are not limited to) hydroacoustic methods for subsea earthquake
and oceanographic investigations; marine applications of electromagnetic
techniques; shallow profiling and acoustic bathymetry applied to seafloor
and water/seafloor interface processes; seismic waveform inversion and
the exploitation of ocean bottom seismometers; and the latest results from
around the world, particularly including new ocean drilling initiatives,
investigation of subseafloor methane reserves, and the Asian tsunami.
The meeting will also feature the British Geophysical Association's
Bullerwell Lecture, to be given by Dr. Glenn Milne, University of
Durham (title yet to be decided), which will be delivered at the end
of the Thursday 8th session and followed by a wine reception.
The British Geophysical Association's AGM will take place at lunchtime
on Friday 9th. There will be a number of vacancies on the committee:
if you are interested in serving, please contact the president,
Dr. Roger Scrutton, [log in to unmask]
Further details including instructions for submission of abstracts
will be posted on the BGA website, http://www.geophysics.org.uk,
shortly.
Deadline for Abstracts: 10th December 2006
