apologies for multiple postings
Hi Folks,
This email is being sent out once again to remind you of a
session currently being planned for the 2006 European Geosciences Union
(EGU) General Assembly in Vienna, Austria, April 2 - 7, 2006.
GMPV6 Accessory minerals in metamorphic and igneous rocks:
petrogenetic indicators of chemical and physical processes
Accessory minerals in metamorphic and igneous rocks nominally include
most phosphate minerals, most sulphide and oxide minerals, as well as a
whole host of REE-, Th-, and U-bearing silicates, e.g. zircon,
titanite, allanite, epidote, thorite, huttonite, and coffinite. In
many cases, careful analysis and characterization of an accessory
mineral can be instrumental in determining the age of a rock, oxygen
and sulphur fugacities, as well as if the rock has experienced
metasomatic alteration. If so, the level and type of alteration in
these minerals can give information as to the approximate composition
of the fluids responsible for the metasomatism as well as the P-T
conditions under which the metasomatism occurred.
The goal of this session is to bring together mineralogists,
petrologists, and geochemists to discuss the most recent advances in
research regarding accessory minerals in general with respect to what
they can tell us about petrogenetic processes in both metamorphic and
igneous rocks as a whole.
More information concerning the 2006 EGU Meeting in Vienna with
respect to the Geochemistry, Mineralogy, Petrology and Volcanology
Program can be found on the following web site:

General information on the 2006 EGU Meeting in Vienna can be found at:
http://meetings.copernicus.org/egu2006/
The on-line abstract submission deadline is January 13, 2006.
Information on the abstract submission process is available at:
http://meetings.copernicus.org/egu2006/how_to_submit_an_abstract.html
East European, Middle Eastern, and African mineralogists,
petrologists, and geochemists are especially encouraged to submit
abstracts. We hope also to attract a good representative cross section
of mineralogists, petrologists, and geochemists from the whole of
Europe as well as tempt a few North and South Americans to cross the
Atlantic. Should any questions arise as to the suitability of the
topic for an abstract to the session, please feel free to contact
anyone of us (email addresses are given below).
It would be great if you could join us for what will hopefully
prove to be a very diverse and wide ranging session on accessory
minerals in historic as well as ever charming Vienna (
http://www.wien.gv.at/english/ ). We hope to see you there.
best regards,
