The Metamorphic Studies Group and Volcanic and Magmatic Studies
Group are running a joint trip to the Aegean (Sept. 16-23, 2006). The
theme of the trip is a look at the geology of a subduction zone from
the "top down." We will initially look at the spectacular exposures
of subduction related volcanics on Santorini and then move to Syros
(type locality of glaucophane) where we will look at excellent
examples of blueschist-facies metavolcanics, marbles that are
juxtaposed with a melange of metavolcanics, serpentinites and
metagabbros, which preserve igneous textures in many places.
Postgrad (PhD) students can receive financial support from the
Metamorphic Studies Group or Volcanic and Magmatic Studies Group.
