*A breast – a breast made from natural rubber. How do you dissuade those
enquiring fingers from having a feel and why should you? The reason:
deterioration of the rubber from both the natural chemicals on fingers
and the oxygen in the environment.* (V&A Museum number L.3000-1948)
Over the past years the University of Derby (UoD) and the Victoria and
Albert Museum (V&A) have collaborated to provide heritage sector workers
in the East of England/Midlands region with a one day summer school.
This has been made possible due to the collaboration of Prof. Trevor
Brown (UoD) and Prof. Graham Martin (V&A) and financial support from the
Royal Society of Chemistry. The topics chosen are varied and are in
direct response to previous participant comments. This years event will
focus on *Conservation of the challenging, exotic, unusual or just darn
ridiculous*. Participants at previous events come from a wide variety of
heritage organisations and backgrounds. The event is non-profit making
and receives in-kind support from the UoD and the V&A. **
