Dear colleagues,
If you could help me with the following task I would be most grateful.
I am trying to source good examples of two rock types for an exhibition that
opens in just a few months: “Art at the Rockface”, to be shown at Norwich
Castle Museum & Art Gallery followed by the Millennium Galleries, Sheffield. I
have tried many potential sources already, but with no success so far. These
two rock types are:
Folded gneiss
Lithographic limestone
Size-wise, they have to be approximately 25cm to 40cm tall - between the size
of an adult human head and an average computer monitor (big enough to look
interesting but not so heavy they are unmanageable and unable to be supported
by a standard wooden plinth). They are specifically to be touched by the public
and preferably would have an area that has already been cut and maybe even
polished, but this is not strictly necessary. Ideally, we would buy (or
borrow!) these items from a commercial supplier so that we can do what we like
to them. Please tell us where you think we might be able to source them from.
Alternatively, we would look to have the pieces on loan from any institution
that is able to provide them. To put this in context, we are already having on
loan for this exhibition artworks, archaeological objects and geological
specimens from the British Museum, Natural History Museum, V&A, National
Portrait Gallery, Her Majesty the Queen’s Collections, Birmingham Museums and
Art Gallery, Courtauld Institute of Art, The Fitzwilliam Museum, The Museum of
London, The National Gallery and the Tate Gallery plus many, many more.
If you think you can help in any way, please contact me as soon as possible on:

Many thanks indeed for your help. Do visit the exhibition, it runs from May
27th to Sept 3rd in Norwich, and September 23rd to January 7th in Sheffield.
With very best wishes, Nigel.
