MIDAS 2nd edition update - April 2006
Dear All,
Two and a half months into the development phase of MIDAS 2nd edition, the preparatory work is progressing slowly but steadily. Invitations are being sent out to different heritage specialists to participate in the MIDAS Heritage working groups. The aim of these groups will be to draft recording standards for various new information areas, such as landscape character, artefacts and ecofacts character, designation and protection, historic environment management activities, historical events and archaeological narratives or synthesis. MIDAS Heritage is a simple checklist of recommended types of data that should be recorded for different information areas. It does not describe or support any particular methodology or procedures.
Please contact me if you would like to participate - your help would be most welcome! Further background information on this FISH project can be found at: http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/filearea.cgi?LMGT1=FISH&a=get&f=/web_midasintro.htm. If you would like to participate in any of the working groups, please subscribe to MIDAS Heritage Smartgroups on: http://www.smartgroups.com/groups/midas2.
The MIDAS Heritage Smartgroups website presents the scope and general content of all the individual information groups (see the 'Files' section) as well as a database of all the so called information units. The database contains empty fields where anyone can add their comments on a particular candidate unit. Please visit the website and see whether it contains units of information you would like to see/use. (Please use the link above). Perhaps you don't agree with the definitions, or you use the units differently. Write and let me know!
Thank you.
Kind regards,
